In a country where it is common for women to ignore men who pass lewd comments/sexual innuendos/cat calls, this was a refreshing sight indeed.
Entrepreneur Veena Ashiya Chindlur is your regular Bangalore girl, but today she is being lauded for doing something out of the ordinary.
On her daily morning jog in her neighbourhood park, K R Suryaprakash, a 30-year-old pervert, started following her. According to Chindlur, “Around 9.30 am, my friend and I were jogging when he made strange noises and eve-teased me. I tried to scare him by running after him. He tried to flee, but I chased him and hit him.”
Luckily her friend had the presence of mind to get it all on her phone camera.
Suryaprakash escaped, but only for a while, because the two friends chanced upon a bike that they believed to be his. They reported it to the police and within 40 minuted, the perpetrator was arrested.
Veena is all praise for the Jayanagar police, saying they were “quick, polite, prompt and respectful.”
